BEING PLASTIC

The iconic Art Deco Jubilee Pool in Penzance recently served as a unique backdrop for Being Plastic, an experimental film screening by artist Andy Hughes. On a clear March 21st evening, the walls and seawater surface of the lido served as a projection screen, creating a visual dialogue between contemporary art and the pressing issue of overconsumption and increasing levels of plastic waste.

Serving as the heart of the broader  ‘Transparent Tide’ project, the screening showcased the power of community action. This Plastic Free Penzance initiative brought residents together with Andy Hughes and Captain Ban Plastic for a series of workshops, where they used local plastic waste to create photographic prints and painted masks.
